Terms of Our Engagement

We will assume you agree with the terms of our engagement unless we hear from you.

Tax Planning and Preparation

We will prepare your Federal and State (if applicable) income tax returns from information that you provide. We will not audit or otherwise verify the data you submit, although it may be necessary to ask questions for clarification. We will provide you with an organizer booklet to assist in gathering information.

It is your responsibility to provide information required for preparation of complete and accurate returns. You should retain all documents, cancelled checks and other data supporting your return; in particular tax authorities require that you have records to substantiate all travel and entertainment expenses. You have final responsibility for the income tax returns and should review them carefully before you sign them.

Our work does not include any procedures designed to discover defalcations or other irregularities, should any exist. We will render accounting/bookkeeping assistance as determined necessary for preparation of your returns.

We will use professional judgment in resolving questions where the tax law is unclear, or where there may be conflicts between the taxing authorities’ interpretations of the law. Unless otherwise instructed by you, we will resolve questions in your favor whenever possible.

Penalties and Inquires

The law provides various penalties that may be imposed when taxpayers understate their tax liability. If you are aware of any potential controversies we ask that you advise us prior to preparation of your returns.

The taxing authorities may audit your returns. Any proposed adjustments by the examining agent are subject to rights of appeal. In the event of such examination, we will be available upon request to represent you. Due to the complexity of the tax law we encourage that you engage our services and there will be fees for these additional services.

Billing Policies

Our fees for these services will be based on time and complexity using standard billing rates plus out-of-pocket expenses. All invoices are due and payable upon presentation. Invoices unpaid for more than 30 days are subject to finance charges.

Timeliness

We appreciate your business. In order to complete your returns in a timely manner we ask that you submit your information as early as possible, preferably before March 25th. While returns submitted before that date might still be extended, it is more likely we will file an extension for returns started after that date. If you are waiting for minor items of information we encourage you to submit your organizer or meet with us so that we can begin the preparation process.
